Lucky / M / 10Y / 17lbs / Miniature poodle / Fostered in Markdale

Lucky's foster describes him as "a full-on Velcro dog. He majors in cuddly, affectionate and tactile, with minors in playful and anxious". His most favourite thing is to be with his person. He also gets very excited to go on walks and hikes but is equally as happy to sleep at his foster's feet while she is working, or curling up beside her on the couch in the evening. He does like having toys to play around with at times of his choosing. Although he was not a fan of being in a vehicle at first, he has become much better with it by realizing that it almost always means doing something fun.

Lucky is house trained and will indicate when he needs to go out. He does not like being crated but is trusted free roaming when left alone. His leash manners are excellent and he is very polite when passing other people and dogs. Lucky is low to medium energy and is currently getting a 1 one hour morning walk, a 30 minute evening walk and a few short walks in between. He has been working on some basic commands (sit, stay, off,wait) and is learning quickly! He is also working on gaining more independence. He does have some separation anxiety and will whine when left alone. He has done better when there is another dog in the home to keep him company. His foster mom says "What strikes me are Lucky’s adaptability (and resiliency for that matter) and just how quickly he attaches. As much as he tends to be reserved when meeting people, he becomes your shadow faster than any dog I’ve known once he feels that he is “home.” He had a dental while in our care and had to have all of his teeth removed as well as a nasal fistula repaired. 

Lucky is reserved when meeting new people but he does eventually warm up and once he feels comfortable with you, he will quickly bond. He enjoys the company of other dogs and would do best in a home with a confident dog to show him the ropes. He would be fine with respectful children 8+. He has not been cat tested but he has not reacted when he has seen cats out on walks. He would do best with a family who is home often or who can take him with them.
