Joey
Joey / M / 2Y / 10lbs / Chihuahua mix / Fostered in Owen Sound
Joey is a certified TV and chill expert - he loves nothing more than cozying up and spending his night on the couch cuddling his people. His foster describes him as quiet and calm, and says he’s easy going and makes great company, especially if he gets to be under a blanket with his trusted people. He’s also big on snacks, and is extremely food motivated. He will guard his food from other dogs though so would need to be fed separately. He does not guard from people at all though.
Because he’s pretty shy and introverted, Joey is looking for a family who can bring out his goofy, playful side. He’s potty trained, but he’ll mark in new places before settling in, and he loves his crate - he sleeps in it and has no problem settling into it and hanging out when he’s left alone, and he’s been left alone for six hours without issue. Joey is low to medium energy, so he gets 30 - 60 minutes of exercise a day, but he needs someone who can help him build his confidence on leash and doesn’t love to go out in the cold or rain. He’s quite fearful of big dogs passing by, as well as cars passing by on his walk, so he’ll need some guidance on leash etiquette. But he’s great with commands - he already knows sit and is working on lie down and come.
Joey’s ideal environment is a quiet neighbourhood with minimal traffic, though he’d be good in an apartment or a home. He warms quickly to people, and would be fine if his furry siblings were small dogs. He’s curious about cats and rabbits, and has not been tested with kids, though he’d likely be okay with dog-savvy children. He’ll warm up to new people with treats, and loves to be bundled up once people have gained his trust. He just needs someone to help him navigate the world and who can soak up all of the love he has to give.
